Orcofilm®
ORCON's
family of Orcofilm®
is a family of high performance, reinforced, flame-retardant covering
films used in aircraft thermal/acoustic insulation systems, aircraft
ducting and variety of other aerospace applications.
On July
31, 2003 the Federal Aviation Administration issued the Final Rule
on Improved Flammability Standards for Thermal/Acoustic Insulation
Materials Used in Transport Category Airplanes (FAA
2000-7909). According to the Rule, all thermal/acoustic insulation
materials installed in the fuselage of transport category airplanes
have to pass a flame propagation test (Radiant Panel Test) per FAR
25.856 (a).
The rule
is applicable to all transport airplanes, regardless of size and capacity,
manufactured after September 2, 2005 as well as all
replacement thermal/acoustic insulation materials installed on transport
airplanes after September 2, 2005.
Following
Orcofilm®
products meet the requirements of FAR 25.856 (a) as well as FAR 25.853
and FAR 25.853:

Some
of the previous generation Orcofilm® products were designed to
meet FAR 25.853 and FAR 25.855 only and do not comply
with recently introduced FAR 25.856 (a). As industry is switching
to FAR 25.856 (a)-compliant materials, Orcon Corporation is planning
to phase out all insulation covering films that do not meet the requirements
of the new FAA Rule.
If
you currently use or plan to use insulation covering films that do
not meet FAR 25.856 (a), we suggest you consider replacement options
from the right column of the table below:
